About this quote
At our deepest, most fundamental level, we are not separate from the universe; we are quite literally born from the heart of dying stars. The iron in our blood, the calcium in our bones, and the carbon in our DNA were forged in ancient stellar explosions billions of years ago. This breathtaking reality means that the universe is not just something we observe from the outside—the universe is experiencing itself through you. Yet, Carl Sagan’s profound reminder goes a step further, offering us one of the most empowering pieces of life advice we could ever receive: we have taken our destiny into our own hands. Unlike the mindless drift of cosmic dust, we possess consciousness, free will, and the extraordinary power to choose our path. No matter how small you might feel on difficult days, remember that the same energy that ignited galaxies burns within your potential. You are the author of your own story, uniquely equipped to shape your future and bring meaning to the cosmos.
